The Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts (HARA) and Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards trace their origins to 1978 and KCCN-AM Radio, then the world’s only all-Hawaiian music radio station. In conjunction with Tropical Music, Inc., Hawai‘i state universities and colleges, the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts awards scholarships annually. The Academy has conducted seminars and panel sessions on the music and recording business with the Recording Academy and the Hawai‘i Island Economic Development Board. In conjunction with the State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT) and Hawai‘i book, fashion and food groups, it participates in events and projects promoting Hawai‘i product. Its two featured programs are the Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Awards. This year the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts is proud to announce the title sponsor is Hawaiian Airlines. Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards
A star-studded event that brings the talented musicians from Hawai`i in to one venue for one night to honor the best of the best. The Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards are Hawai`i's version of the Grammy Music Awards. They are held on an annual basis each Spring.
The award ceremonies will be broadcast in stunning High Definition on KGMB throughout Hawai`i and will stream live over the world-wide web.
This gala event will kick off the close of the 2010 Nā Hōkū O Hawai`i Music Festival and is sure to be THE event of the year.
Lifetime Achievement Awards
Keeping with the tradition established 30 years ago, the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts (HARA) will honor 5 Legends of Hawaiian Music at the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards Luncheon that will include entertainment from each honoree and surprise guest appearances. This event is a must see, once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and greet those responsible for much of what we hear today throughout the islands, and those who have taken Hawaiian music across the globe. This event will honor their contributions and commitment to Hawaiian music.
