
Songwriter Search Contest

For the past several years, the Kauai Music Festival (KMF) has conducted a "Songwriter Search" contest on the island of Oahu in advance of the annual Kauai Music Festival.
This year, we are pleased to be holding this contest in conjunction with the Na Hoku Hanohano O Hawaii Music Festival!
To enter this contest, please email an MP3 or AAC (Apple format) song file no larger than 5MB filesize along with a lyric sheet (.doc, .txt, or PDF file format) to: songsearch@kauaimusicfestival.com no later than midnight, May 21, 2010.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be a registered attendee of the Na Hoku Festival to enter this contest.
For purposes of this contest, a "song" is defined as having both music and lyrics. Only one entry per person. If you co-wrote the song with someone else, only one person can be the designated winner. See full details and contest rules below.
10 Finalists will be picked from the online entries to perform in front of a panel of judges at a special session during the Na Hoku Festival.
The Grand Prize Winner of that session will receive the following (approximately a $1,000 value!):
* Free Attendance to the 2010 KMF* (July 28 - July 31, 2010 at the Kaua'i Beach Resort on the island of Kaua'i)
* Inter-Island Airfare
* Hotel for 5 nights during the event at the Kaua'i Beach Resort
* Automatic Inclusion as one of the Songwriting Competition Finalists at the KMF All remaining Finalists will receive FREE Attendance to the Kauai Music Festival. (a $150 value)
Details and Contest Rules:
1) This contest is intended to help aspiring songwriters and artist/songwriters advance their careers. Only songwriters who have never had any song they wrote appear on any of the Billboard song charts may enter.2) Each participant may submit 1 original song of no more than 5 minutes in length in the form of an MP3 or AAC file no larger than 5MB in size, and a lyric sheet via e-mail to songsearch@kauaimusicfestival.com
3) Deadline for entries is Midnight, Hawaii Standard Time, Friday, May 21.
4) All songs must be original, unpublished songs that have been written (or at least 50% co-written) by the entrant. For competition purposes, a song is defined as having both music and lyrics. "Unpublished" means not published by a national music publishing organization with national or international distribution. Entrants must be individuals, not groups or duos.
5) 10 Finalists will be selected from the entries and notified upon check-in at the Na Hoku Festival. Each Finalist will receive free attendance to the 2010 Kauai Music Festival. With the exception of the Grand Prize Winner, all Finalists must cover their own travel, hotel, and food expenses.
6) The 10 Finalists will appear during a special session at the Na Hoku Festival to perform his/her song live in front of a panel of judges. The entrant may also have one person accompany him/her in the performance. Either of these people can perform vocals or instruments or both. Non-performing songwriters may sing or have someone sing to a CD. Entrants must bring their own instruments.
7) All songs will be judged on the basis of song structure, music, lyrics, and rhythm according to the genre in which they are written. Since this is a songwriting contest, the quality of the performance is not considered. Selection of the judges is final.
